Transfer WhatsApp Messages From Android To Android | Export chat

In this video, I will show you the exact steps on how to transfer WhatsApp from your old Android phone to a new Android phone. This method will not use Google Drive account to upload or download WhatsApp backup, instead, this method will directly transfer data from old phone to new phone using Wi-Fi.

Continue watching and let’s go through the steps.

This is the old WhatsApp phone and this is the new phone. Before proceeding, check if WhatsApp in the old phone has any updates available. If yes, update the app first.

It is important to leave your SIM card in the old phone. Do not transfer the SIM card to the new phone yet.

Next important step is to make sure both the old and new phones are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. This Wi-Fi network can also be a mobile hotspot.

Open WhatsApp on the old phone.

Click the three dots to open the menu and click Settings.

Under Settings, click on the Chats menu item.

Scroll down and you will find the Transfer Chats option.

Although I’m not going to use Google Drive backup to transfer data to my new phone, I prefer to take precaution and just create an online backup. This is just in case if something goes wrong, I will at least have the latest backup online in Google Drive.

Once done making an online backup, click on Transfer Chats.

This screen is self-explanatory and the steps are easy to follow.

Click on the Start button.

This will activate the camera to scan QR Code.

There are 3 steps instructions here.

Let’s do the first step, install WhatsApp on the new phone.

Launch the app, select your preferred language, review terms and policies and click Agree and Continue button.

This is an option to give permission for WhatsApp notifications, I’m selecting Allow.

Next, you will need to type in your phone number. This is the same phone number from the old phone and at this point the SIM card is still in the old phone. Click the Next button.

The app will now verify the phone number.

If you would like to verify your phone number via a missed call, click on the Continue button. If you want to verify via an SMS code, click on Verify another way. I’m choosing the another way option. You will now get both the Send SMS and Call me options.

I am choosing the Send SMS button. The system will send a SMS text message to the SIM card in the old phone. Once you have the SMS text, type the WhatsApp code into the new phone. Verification process is now complete.

To allow WhatsApp to access your contacts, photos and media, click on Continue. Click Allow for access contacts. Click Allow for access music and audio. Click Allow all for access photos and videos.

Transfer process is about to begin soon. Click on the Continue button. This process needs permission for Nearby Wi-Fi Devices. Click Continue. To connect to a nearby device, click on Allow.

You will get a QR code in the new phone. Go to the app in the old phone and use it to scan the QR code. Once scanned, the old phone will search for the new phone.

Once found, the old phone will prepare and transfer data to the new phone. While the phones are transferring and receiving data, do not do anything else on the phones. Stay on the screens until the process is completed. It may take a while if you have a large amount of WhatsApp data.

The process is now completed on the old phone. On the new phone, click the Next button. You will see the same WhatsApp profile image from the old phone. However, you will need to type your name again here. Then, click the Next button. This stage is to create passkey secure login. You can set this up, but as I am not planning to use this, I’m clicking Skip. Once the app has initialized, the first option shown is to set a data backup option. You can select how frequent the backup needs to be done and my preference is Daily backup. Now I need to choose which Google account storage is used for backup files. I have multiple Google accounts logged in this phone, so I’ll choose one. You can choose to include videos in the backup or enable mobile data usage during backup. Then, click Done and you’ll now see your chat history in the new phone.

On the old phone, click on the Done button. Go back to the main app screen and you will be shown a Logged Out message.

Turn off both the phones.

Remove SIM card from old phone and insert into the new phone.

WhatsApp data and SIM card has been transferred from the old phone to the new phone. You can now use WhatsApp in your new phone and continue messaging where you left last in the old phone.
