This is a standard looking brown cardboard box for ASUS Vivobook which has a QR code for AR unboxing experience.
Scan the QR code using the phone and follow the instructions. Somehow it did not work on my old Huawei P30 Pro phone.
At the back of the box is a sticker with the laptop model number E1504F and its specifications.
Let’s open the box and see what’s inside. The laptop is wrapped in a white fabric-like material to protect it from any damage while shipping.
From the box, you get a shiny new ASUS Vivobook laptop.
A 45W power adapter which came with an Australian power cord.
This small power adapter only weighs 145g. Together with the power cord they weigh 264g.
There is a user guide booklet, a warranty card booklet and information about MyASUS support and care services.
Remember to charge the laptop for at least 3 hours before using it in battery mode for the first time.
To keep the price of this laptop low, the laptop is made entirely out of plastic. Although it is said to meet the military-grade standard US MIL-STD 810H, I don’t really feel that confident with its all plastic body.
ASUS Vivobook Go 15 weighs only 1.6kg which makes it easy to carry around.
At the top is a smooth surface except where the laptop name is printed.
At the bottom of the laptop, there are the rubber feet that provide grip on surfaces. There are two speaker cutouts here. And ventilation grills at the bottom of the laptop. However, hot air comes out via a vent at the back of the base.
On the left side, you get a USB Type-A 2.0 port and the indicator lights.
On the right side, there is the power plug, an HDMI 1.4 connector, a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) port and an audio jack.
It is not possible to open the lid with one hand, so I need to use two hands.
Remove the protective sheet.
The bezels around the display are quite thin, which I generally prefer.
The top bezel has an HD web camera with a privacy shutter.
The base comes with a full keyboard and full-size number pad.
Typing feels comfortable with its decent key travel and click feedback.
The touchpad has a smooth surface and nice click feedback too.
This laptop has a hinge that allows you to tilt the screen close to 180°. This allows you the flexibility to angle the screen as per your comfort or keep it flat to show other people around you.
As mentioned earlier, you will need to charge at least for 3 hours the first time before using the laptop in battery mode. While connected to power, let’s turn on and configure this laptop.
It has entered the initial set up process.
Select your preferred language and click Yes.
Choose your country or region and click Yes.
Pick your preferred keyboard layout and click Yes.
You can also add a second keyboard layout but I’m skipping this.
Connect to the internet to continue setting up the laptop.
Once connected, the system will immediately check for updates.
This process can take a while, so please be patient while it is updating.
The system will restart if required.
Review and accept the Microsoft Software License Agreement.
Give the device a name. This name is used to identify this laptop in the system or network.
If you already have a Microsoft account, use it to sign in or you can create a new account here.
In this demo, I’m signing in using an existing Microsoft account username and password.
As I am using the same account used in another computer, the system offers the option to restore files and settings from the other computer.
Click More options and there is an option to set it up as a new PC.
I’m setting this up as a new PC and the next step is to set up a PIN.
Next, choose preferred privacy options and click Accept.
For support and protection, you can enter your details for ASUS registration and click Next.
There’s further options to choose from and then click Next.
Selecting from this list allows Microsoft to personalize tips, ads and recommendations for you. You can skip or Accept this.
This allows you to use the phone from this laptop. I am skipping this for now.
This step is to import data from other browsers into Microsoft Edge. I am skipping this process.
There is a free offer for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate which I think is for 2 weeks and after the free offer, you will be charged the normal price.
I am not claiming this offer, so skip it for now.
Finally, it is checking for updates again.
The updates will run which can take a while and then restarts the laptop.
The initial set up has now been completed and Windows 11 desktop is shown.
This is a 15.6” FullHD 1920×1080 resolution screen and it is not a touch screen.
This screen uses a TN panel which is different from an IPS panel.
TN panel screen has less wider viewing angles compared to IPS which means that color and images may not be consistent when viewing from different angles.
If you are a gamer, TN panels generally have faster response times than IPS panels, making them suitable for fast paced gaming.
If you are working in graphic design or video editing, IPS panels provide superior color accuracy and consistency compared to TN panels.
The processor that powers this laptop is AMD Ryzen 3 7320U which has 4 Cores with 2.4 GHz processor speed.
This CPU has an integrated GPU called AMD Radeon Graphics.
The memory size is 8GB RAM and storage is 512GB SSD, however smaller usable sizes are reported.
The battery duration is claimed up to 14 hours however in my test it lasted less than 8 hours. Battery duration depends on a lot of factors such as screen brightness level and the activities performed on the laptop. Intensive processes such as gaming or video editing can drain the battery quicker.
I have been testing this laptop for more than 3 months now.
This is not a very powerful laptop, so don’t expect to perform extensive tasks such as heavy 4K video editing. However, FullHD video editing works well.
For gamers, the TN panel screen offers fast response times but the colors are not as vivid as an IPS panel.
It does not have a SD card reader, so it can be a hassle if you need to transfer files from a microSD card.
The battery life is pretty decent for an affordable laptop like this.
In my opinion, this laptop is perfect as a daily productivity laptop or a student’s laptop.
It has enough power and performance to perform most tasks and the laptop is in the lower price category. It is lightweight to carry around easily and the build quality feels solid even when it looks very plastic.
